The outreach went to Ernie as Senior Vice President of Trade Shows at Estes Forwarding Worldwide, a 1,000 person licensed customs broker. His LinkedIn profile, pulled on 21 August, says that role ended in August 2026 and that he has been President of Total Reliance Logistics, a woman owned freight brokerage in Reading, Pennsylvania with 8 people listed on LinkedIn, since August 2026. On 8 August he posted: "Grateful for where I've been, proud of what I've accomplished, and excited for what comes next. Onward." The TRL company page has been posting under his name since 7 August. EFW's own website still carried him as a leader at the time of writing, so the public record has not caught up yet, but his own profile is the most current source and it is unambiguous.
- A 30 year logistics operator who founded a trade show freight company in 2000, sold it to EFW in 2023, ran EFW's trade show division for three and a half years, and left this month to run a small freight brokerage.
- TRL describes itself as a freight brokerage, logistics, warehousing and storage business connecting shippers with a network of carriers coast to coast. Nothing on its LinkedIn page mentions customs, brokerage licences or international work.
- His own message said he is "not sure how your platform will help when you say batch entries". From where he now sits, that is simply accurate.
- This is a conversation with a well connected freight operator who just started a new business, not with a customs desk. Set expectations accordingly before dialling.
- The call was booked using ernie.magalotti@efwnow.com, the address the outreach data carried. He replied on LinkedIn, not by email, and has not confirmed the invite.
- That mailbox still accepts mail as of 21 August (verified), so the invite did not bounce. Whether he is still reading it is unknown.
- The TRL company page publishes trl@totalreliancelogistics.com and 484-388-4090. The company website was down (hosting suspended) on 21 August, which fits a business in its first weeks.
- Before Monday, confirm on LinkedIn which email he wants the invite on and re-send it there. Without that, the most likely outcome is a no-show for a reason that has nothing to do with interest.
- Three and a half years inside EFW, including the year it bought Superior Brokerage Services, a customs brokerage, and integrated it. He will know who runs that desk and how busy it is.
- EFW is hiring customs entry writers right now and named a new President on 7 August. Ernie left in the same month. He may know more about why than anyone outside the building.
- TRL's shippers may import. A freight brokerage that moves their domestic legs sees who their customs broker is and how often entries go wrong.
- The realistic prize is a warm introduction into EFW's customs desk and a read on whether TRL's customers have any classification pain. Neither is a sale on Monday.
Prospect Rationale
Ernie Magalotti came into the pipeline as Senior Vice President of Trade Shows at Estes Forwarding Worldwide. EFW is the forwarding arm of Estes Express Lines, the largest privately held freight carrier in the United States, a licensed customs broker and NVOCC with 29 facilities, 20,000 plus customers and, by its own site, more than 1,000 staff. It bought a customs brokerage in 2023 and is advertising for customs entry writers today. On that basis EFW is exactly the kind of company the Classifier was built for, and the LinkedIn message from Adrian's account was written for its customs desk.
Ernie's own history is trade shows, not customs. He founded Legacy Logistics in Reading, Pennsylvania in 2000, built it over 22 years around getting exhibit freight to the show floor, sold it to EFW in March 2023 and ran it inside EFW as the Trade Show Division. In August 2026 he left, and he is now President of Total Reliance Logistics, a small woman owned freight brokerage in the same town. He replied to the message within eight hours: he is "not sure how your platform will help when you say batch entries" but "open for a conversation", and he offered two windows. The call was booked inside the window he gave, to his EFW address.
The honest one-sentence picture: the company in the outreach data is a strong fit and the person who replied no longer works there, so Monday is a conversation with a freshly independent freight operator who knows EFW's customs operation from the inside and whose new business has no customs work of its own. The value is an introduction and a read, not a deployment, and the first job before the call is making sure the invite reaches him at all.
How we contacted them: outbound, LinkedIn, from Adrian's account, as part of the tariff campaign that started on 14 August. First message 20 August, his reply the same day, call booked the next morning inside the window he offered.
The Conversation So Far
Every message, in order
- 20 August, 12:32 UTC. Message from Adrian's LinkedIn account after he accepted the connection: "Ernie, thanks for connecting. We built an AI that does the line-by-line duty work in minutes at 99.8 percent accuracy, so the same desk clears a lot more entries without hiring. Pentagon Freight Services runs 1,000 lines through us in 15 minutes and now handles more clients with the same team. Want to see it on a batch of your own entries? On us."
- 20 August, 20:37 UTC. Ernie, eight hours later: "Adrian - I am not sure how your platform will help when you say batch entries; however I would be open for a conversation. I am out of town until next week so let's schedule a call sometime next week. My schedule is open on Monday anytime after 2PM til 5 PM or Wednesday 9AM-11:00 AM. Thanks Ernie"
- 21 August, 06:12 UTC. Reply from Adrian's account: "Hey Ernie, I booked the call for 2 PM ET on Monday, the 24th. I used this email address to book it: ernie.magalotti@efwnow.com. Let me know if it's showing up on your calendar, and please confirm."
The booking is an HTS Fit-Check Call, Monday 24 August at 2:00 PM EDT, 7:00 PM in London. The invite went to his EFW address. He has not confirmed it, and his LinkedIn says he no longer works there. He is expecting a conversation, not a demo: he asked what "batch entries" means before agreeing to talk, and nobody has shown him anything.
Who He Is Now
Ernie Magalotti
- Now: President, Total Reliance Logistics, since August 2026. His own description: a Pennsylvania based trucking and transportation company where he leads strategy and day to day operations across operations, sales, finance, safety, compliance, fleet management and business development.
- Before: Senior Vice President of Trade Shows, Estes Forwarding Worldwide, March 2023 to August 2026, Reading, Pennsylvania. President and Owner, Legacy Logistics, January 2000 to March 2023, the trade show and event shipping company he founded and sold to EFW. Account Executive, Eagle Global Logistics, 1998 to 2000. Sales, Roadway Express, 1992 to 1996.
- Education: Juniata College, Marketing, 1988 to 1992.
- Online: 1,045 connections, 1,102 followers, verified profile, posts a few times a month. Recent posts are about selling value over price, TRL's freight capacity, and until June, trade show material handling and liability. He spoke at an Exhibitor eTrak session in June 2026.
- Behaviour in the thread: replied within eight hours, said plainly what he did not follow, offered two concrete windows. Direct, and organised about his calendar.
- Authority read: he runs TRL, so he signs for TRL. He has no standing at EFW any more. What he has is the relationships from three and a half years there and from selling them his company.
Total Reliance Logistics, LLC (TRL)
- What it is: a woman owned freight brokerage based in Reading, Pennsylvania. Its own line: TRL connects companies with high quality freight shipping solutions through a professional network of carriers delivering coast to coast, plus logistics, warehousing and storage support.
- Size: LinkedIn band 11 to 50 employees, 8 people listed. 1,148 followers.
- Contact published on LinkedIn: 484-388-4090, trl@totalreliancelogistics.com.
- Website: totalreliancelogistics.com returned a hosting "account suspended" page on 21 August.
- Customs: nothing on the company page mentions customs brokerage, a broker licence, international freight or classification. Treat TRL as domestic truckload brokerage until he says otherwise.
- Not found: founding date, ownership detail, USDOT or MC number, named customers.
Key intel
- His LinkedIn experience shows EFW ending in August 2026 and TRL starting in August 2026. His 8 August post reads as a farewell. The TRL company page has posted under the TRL name on 7 and 10 August. [source]
- EFW named Lance Harcrow President on 7 August 2026, with founder Scott Fisher moving to Vice Chairman. Ernie left the same month. Whether the two are connected is a question, not a fact. [source]
- The EFW mailbox the invite went to still accepts mail as of 21 August, so the booking did not bounce. It may be forwarded, monitored by someone else, or unread.
- EFW files customs entries as a licensed broker, bought Superior Brokerage Services in 2023, and had Customs Entry Writer roles live in August 2026 in Saint Paul and remote, with CargoWise in the spec. That is the desk the message was written for, and Ernie spent three and a half years one floor away from it. [source]
- EFW Tradeshow, the division he ran, covers the US and cross-border to Canada. It does not say who runs it now. [source]
EFW, The Company He Left
What EFW is
- Parent: Estes Express Lines, Richmond, Virginia, family owned since 1931, 5.8 billion dollars plus revenue, number 8 on the 2025 Transport Topics Top 100
- EFW: founded 2003, Richmond HQ, 29 facilities in 20 US cities, 7 million plus square feet, 100 plus partner offices, control tower in Taiwan, 20,000 plus active customers
- Services: domestic air and ground, international air and ocean, customs brokerage and trade compliance, bonded warehousing, Mexico cross-border, trade show logistics
- Licences: licensed US customs broker, NVOCC, C-TPAT, IATA and IAC, licensed FTZ sites. USDOT 2352258, MC 801982.
- 2023: bought Legacy Logistics (Ernie's company) in March and Superior Brokerage Services, a Minneapolis customs brokerage, in September. The CEO said the SBS deal doubled revenue and put EFW "within striking distance of 1 billion dollars". Staff from about 750 to 1,100 plus.
Why it still matters on this call
- EFW's customs desk is a real, invoiced service line that bills for entries and is hiring entry writers by hand. That is the profile the Classifier fits best.
- Ernie knows that building. He sold EFW his company, sat on its leadership team through the SBS integration, and left in the month the company changed Presidents.
- EFW's customs page says, in its own words: "By applying the correct code to your goods, EFW determines customs duties, trade restrictions, and other applicable requirements for customs compliance."
- The most useful thing Ernie can do on Monday is name who runs that desk today and whether he would make an introduction. Ask it plainly. A recently departed executive may or may not be willing, and may be under restrictions, so take a no gracefully.
- Paul Goff, EVP, came in as the founder of Superior Brokerage Services and is the most likely senior owner of the brokerage side. That is a reasonable guess to test with Ernie, not a fact.
The structural point worth holding onto
Two companies are in this dossier and they are opposite shapes. EFW is a near billion dollar forwarder with a licensed brokerage whose constraint is throughput per entry writer. TRL is a new, small freight brokerage whose constraint is winning freight. The Classifier has an obvious home in the first and none in the second. Ernie is now at the second and has relationships in the first. That is the whole frame for Monday.
The Numbers
Read this first
There are no financial figures for TRL anywhere, and there should not be for a business in its first weeks. EFW does not publish financials either; third-party estimates of 222 to 245 million dollars a year sit badly against the CEO's own near 1 billion dollar comment in 2023, so do not quote them. The parent's figures are solid. Everything marked as EFW's own claim is from its website or press releases.
Verified from primary or named sources
- Ernie's moves: EFW March 2023 to August 2026, TRL President from August 2026, Legacy Logistics 2000 to 2023, all from his LinkedIn profile
- TRL: LinkedIn band 11 to 50, 8 listed, 1,148 followers, Reading PA, woman owned freight brokerage
- EFW: LinkedIn band 501 to 1,000 with 534 listed; site says 1,000 plus; 29 facilities, 20 cities, 7 million plus square feet; 20,000 plus customers; USDOT 2352258, MC 801982
- Parent Estes Express Lines: 5.8 billion dollars plus revenue, number 8 on the 2025 Transport Topics Top 100
- EFW mailbox ernie.magalotti@efwnow.com: still accepting mail on 21 August
Estimated or stated, handle with care
- EFW revenue near 1 billion dollars, from the CEO's 2023 phrasing only
- EFW headcount 344 to 1,000 plus depending on the counter; use their own 1,000 plus, attributed
- EFW ocean shipments 7,861 or 47,216 depending on which record you read; freight counts, not entries
- TRL revenue, customers, import exposure: unknown. Everything about TRL's book is a question for the call.
- Why he left EFW: unknown. His farewell post is warm. Do not assume.
The signal that matters
The one number that decides whether this conversation leads anywhere is not on this page. It is how many entries a year EFW's brokerage files and who owns that desk under the new President. Ernie cannot sign for it, but he can say it, and he can make the introduction. On the TRL side the number to find is how many of his shippers import and who clears for them, which is a secondary channel at best. Everything else here is context.
Pain Signals & Gaps
- Outreach data: Senior Vice President of Trade Shows, Estes Forwarding Worldwide.
- His LinkedIn on 21 August: that role ended August 2026; President of Total Reliance Logistics from August 2026; farewell post 8 August; TRL posts from 7 August.
- The invite went to his EFW mailbox, which still accepts mail but may not be read.
- Nothing the Classifier does changes this. It is the first thing to resolve: confirm the right email on LinkedIn, re-send the invite, and walk in knowing who he is now.
- Licensed US customs broker with customs brokerage and trade compliance as standing service lines.
- Bought Superior Brokerage Services, a customs brokerage specialist, in 2023; the CEO said it doubled revenue.
- Customs Entry Writer roles live in August 2026, Saint Paul and remote, five to seven years of experience, CargoWise named, 24 to 32.50 dollars an hour.
- Ernie was on EFW's leadership team from the SBS acquisition through to this month.
- An AI HTS classifier here would let that desk clear more entries per writer, which is the capacity the postings are trying to buy with headcount. The route to that desk now runs through an introduction, and Ernie is the person who can make it.
- TRL moves freight for shippers coast to coast and offers warehousing and storage.
- Any of those shippers who import have a customs broker somewhere, and their freight broker hears about held containers, late releases and surprise duty bills because they are the ones rescheduling the truck.
- Nothing about TRL's customer book is public. This is a question, not a finding.
- An AI HTS classifier here would matter only through TRL's customers or their brokers, as a referral, not as a TRL deployment. Worth one question, not the call.
- He ran trade show logistics for 26 years and was posting about show floor liability and material handling as recently as May and June 2026.
- Exhibit goods that cross a border normally move as temporary imports and come home; goods sold, given away or damaged become real, dutiable entries on a deadline. That is how the trade works, not something either company states.
- Whether TRL will carry any trade show work, and whether any of it crosses a border, is unknown.
- An AI HTS classifier here would give a fast, defensible code at the moment an exhibit shipment stops being temporary. It is the honest, narrow answer to his batch entries question, and it only matters if he is still in that world.
- EFW named Lance Harcrow President on 7 August 2026 and moved founder Scott Fisher to Vice Chairman.
- Ernie's EFW role ended in August 2026. His farewell post is dated 8 August.
- Reporting lines and budget owners for customs and compliance at EFW may have moved with the new President.
- An AI HTS classifier here has a timing argument inside EFW: a new President who wants early wins and a desk that is hiring to keep up. Ernie can say who to talk to and how receptive they are likely to be, which is worth more than any public record.
Where the Classifier Adds Value
The Classifier's home in this story is EFW's brokerage desk, and Ernie is no longer inside it. So the value on Monday is indirect: what he knows, who he can introduce, and whether his new customers give him a reason to care. These are the places it moves the needle, in order of how much is at stake.
EFW's brokerage desk, through an introduction
A licensed brokerage clearing entries for a 20,000 customer forwarder, hiring entry writers to keep up. The Classifier would take the line-by-line first pass off those writers so the same desk clears more entries without the next hire, the mechanism proven at Pentagon Freight Services with 1,000 lines in 15 minutes. Every entry there is invoiced, so throughput is margin. The way in is a name from Ernie.
A read on EFW from someone who just left
How the SBS integration went, which system the desk runs on, how stretched the entry writers are, who owns customs under the new President, and how open that person would be to a vendor conversation. That is intelligence a cold approach to EFW would never get, and it shapes the next step if an introduction happens.
TRL's importing customers, as a referral channel
If some of TRL's shippers import, their brokers are classifying by hand and TRL hears about it when a container is held. The Classifier would help those brokers, and a freight broker who can say "ask your customs broker about this" is a useful friend. Small, indirect, worth one question.
Exhibit freight, if it follows him
Should TRL carry trade show work across a border, the one-off entries created when exhibit goods do not come home are exactly where a defensible code in minutes matters most. This is the honest answer to his batch entries question, and it lives or dies on whether he is still in that business.
Leaving the door open
A 30 year operator one month into a new company will meet a lot of shippers and brokers in the next year. Ending the call with a short written description he can forward, and a standing offer to classify a batch for anyone he points at, costs nothing and puts the Classifier in the hands of a well connected person at the start of his next chapter.
Questions for the Call
Watch-Outs
Sort the email before anything else
The invite is sitting in a mailbox at a company he left this month. It still accepts mail, but that proves nothing about whether he sees it. Message him on LinkedIn before Monday, say you noticed the move, and ask which address he wants the invite on. If he does not answer, expect a no-show and do not read it as disinterest.
Do not run this as the EFW pitch
He is not at EFW and his new company has no customs work on its public record. Pitching batch classification to the president of a small domestic freight brokerage will confirm his first reaction. Open with the move, ask what TRL does, and let the EFW conversation come up as something he knows about rather than something he owns.
Against the qualification criteria, be clear-eyed
On the criteria we agreed for this engagement, a company of TRL's type and size sits outside the company gate, and he no longer holds a role at the company that does qualify. That does not make Monday worthless. It makes it an introduction and intelligence call. Decide before dialling that this is what it is, and whether 30 minutes for that is a good trade this week.
Three things not to say out loud
- Why he left. Unknown. His farewell post is warm. Do not speculate, and do not link it to the new President unless he does.
- EFW's revenue or entry volume. No reliable figure exists for either. The CEO's "near a billion" is the only revenue anchor and it is from 2023.
- That the pitch was a mistake. It was written for the right company and the data was a month out of date. Say that plainly if it comes up, then move on.
